#PTPayback

Who can get involved?

PTs need to be qualified to level three with a recognised awarding body. There is potential for level two gym instructors with teaching qualifications could also take part. We are also looking for facilities providers – gyms, studios and established fitness/exercise classes. Eventually, the plan is to integrate #PTPayback into the curriculum of trainee PTs and instructors.

What type of people might PTs be working with?

We aim to pair vulnerable and in need people with PTs to help improve their mental and physical health. Depending on the PTs preferences and specialisms, they may work with anyone from individuals to groups, children to the elderly. It may be somebody who suffers with depression or a person in rehabilitation after an injury. In short, we don’t have a type.

What sort of work will PTs be doing?

There’s no one size fits all approach. PTs might run 1:1 consultations or they may do group exercise classes. It could be in a park or at somebody’s home. It could be a talk about nutrition and the benefits of exercise, or it could be providing hints and tips to people who work with vulnerable people, such a youth workers or care workers.

Will PTs be working with the same people each week?

Possibly, but not definitely. It depends on the needs of the individuals involved and the time the PT has available. Not everyone can do an hour a week, every week. PTs may wish to donate hours on an ad-hoc basis. Like everything else this is flexible.

How do you find the clients for PTs?

We’re building relationships with a variety of providers. These include medical teams, local healthcare providers, education providers, youth centres and councils. Anyone who works with vulnerable people and is a partner of ours may wish to refer people to Honest Fitness for #PTPayback.

How many hours do PTs have to donate?

This depends on the PTs availability. We aim to support PTs, not put barriers in their way. We will ask for a commitment, but we will also be flexible. PTs will be able to save up their hours and keep a record over time. If it’s ad-hoc, then it’s still better than nothing. But those who can provide a small amount of time each week will reap the greatest rewards.

What rewards are on offer?

We’re currently in talks with a number of companies and organisations to provide suitable rewards. We’re hoping to offer exclusive discounts with a variety of retailers, as well as #PTPayback sports clothing and equipment from famous brands. On top of that, we’re developing a scale of CPD points that you can ‘earn’ for taking part. If that’s not enough, we’re also working with training providers to offer significant discounts on their courses. So the more you give, the more we will give back.
And the biggest reward? Well we honestly believe that will be the great feeling you get from helping people who really need it – seeing the changes that you’ve helped to elicit.

What do I have to do to get involved?

We need to get a group of PTs and venues together who are willing to get the ball rolling. All snowballs start as snowflakes and we need people who are willing to be guinea pigs. We need to offer the trainers to get the clients. And when they realise who great it is, the demand will grow.
